Thermo Fisher Scientific Debuts New Capabilities for NITON XL3 Series Handheld Elemental Analyzers at PITTCON 2008 |
| |
NEW ORLEANS (March 3, 2008) – Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., the world leader in serving science, today unveiled new capabilities for its Thermo Scientific NITON XL3 Series handheld elemental analyzers at PITTCON® 2008. Reinforcing its position as the leading provider of handheld X-ray fluorescence (XRF) analyzers, the company will showcase its entire XRF portfolio, featuring light elemental analysis and small-spot focus technology. Demonstrations of the breakthrough NITON XL3 Series analyzer will be conducted at the Thermo Scientific booth 1741 at PITTCON, being held March 3 – 6 in New Orleans.
Engineered for high performance, reliability and ease of use, the rock-solid XL3 instrument platform is purpose-built for the most demanding customer applications, including nondestructive elemental analysis of metal alloys for positive material identification (PMI); scrap metal recycling and QA/QC in manufacturing and fabrication environments; RoHS compliance; and toy and consumer goods screening. NITON analyzers also lead the way in performing analysis of soils and sediments; environmental monitoring, including lead paint assessment; geochemical mapping; art analysis; and archaeometry and forensic analysis.
“From the inside out, these instruments were designed to make our customers more successful,” said Dr. Ian Jardine, vice president of global research and development for Thermo Fisher Scientific.
“With the introduction of light elemental analysis and small-spot capabilities, our analyzers have the ability to rapidly and reliably provide on-site screening solutions, helping our customers to optimize valuable laboratory resources. NITON XL3 Series analyzers provide users with high performance today, scalability for future needs and a robust foundation to develop new features and applications.”
Alloy Analysis
The Thermo Scientific NITON XL3 800 Series provides among the fastest alloy grade identification and laboratory-quality composition analysis of metal alloys ever performed with a handheld XRF analyzer. Typical time for routine positive grade identification is less than two seconds, increasing sample throughput and user productivity.
RoHS Compliance
Regulators and industry associations have taken steps to both reduce and regulate the amount of certain toxic metals that can find their way into the waste stream. To cope with this complex regulatory environment and ensure compliance with the EU and China Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS), Waste Electronic and Electrical Equipment (WEEE) and other regulations, suppliers, fabricators and assemblers must perform verification testing on components. This requires new QA/QC protocols and analysis programs, where speed, accuracy and cost effectiveness are critical. The Thermo Scientific NITON XL3 700 Series analyzer is the ideal tool for this job.
Toy and Consumer Goods Screening
News about product recalls, most recently in toys originating in China, has many consumers, manufacturers, legislators and industry stakeholders calling for a comprehensive solution. Handheld Thermo Scientific NITON XL3 700 Series analyzers provide quick and easy screening of toys and other consumer goods for lead, cadmium, mercury and other toxic metals.
Environmental Testing
Requirements for the identification and remediation of environmental contamination in residential, commercial and industrial settings are increasing globally. Thermo Scientific NITON XL3 600 Series analyzers were designed for the simultaneous multi-element analysis of environmental samples, including soils, dust wipes, filter media, thin films and solid waste. Real-time, on-site results can help users dynamically modify inspection and remediation plans based on hard data, creating efficiencies and saving time and money.
